A week after he unified his WBA lightweight title with Leo Santa Cruz’s super featherweight strap, the hottest name in boxing right now celebrated his 26th birthday.

Davis earned himself an early birthday present after unifying the WBA’s 130 & 135lb title against 4-weight world champion Leo Santa Cruz last week.

He did so with a knockout suitably scary for their fight date of Halloween as ‘Tank’ briefly snatched the soul of his adversary with a destructive left uppercut.

The Floyd Mayweather protege seems to be going from strength to strength so far with his career inside the ring, boasting an undefeated record with a 95% knockout percentage.

Circumstances outside the ring are looking slightly hairier for him though as he was allegedly involved in a hit and run after ignoring a red light in the early hours of Thursday morning last week.

Police have not named anybody included in the incident and Davis’ representatives have not issued a comment in regard to it so only time will tell how severe the consequences will be for the Baltimore banger.

THE BOXING GAME YOU HAVE ALL BEEN WAITING FOR!

Hopefully, it does not halt the momentum that Davis’ career has right now to a large degree as he has shown the potential to etch his name into the history books after proving himself against a step up in competition last weekend.

This convincing performance now begs the question, where does Davis go from here? Mayweather promotions did a top job in the matchmaking of their star’s previous fight so who could they entice from the red-hot lightweight division to get in the ring with the powerful champion?

On the Boxingguru Instagram page, we called out to fans to ask who they would want to see face off against Davis next and they weren’t shy on responses.

The fabulous four that kept arising were:

Newly undisputed lightweight champion Teofimo Lopez

WBC’s promoted champion Devin Haney

The recently beaten but great Vasyl Lomachenko

Undefeated Golden Boy prospect Ryan Garcia

Although the final suggestion has a postponed fight lined up with established contender Luke Campbell in the near future, the rest work well in terms of availability for ‘Tank’.

It is of no news that Lopez and Lomachenko are fresh off a fight with each other, so the timing is convenient. As is the case with Haney as he took on and dominantly beat veteran Yuriorkis Gamboa last weekend.

Any of these match-ups against Davis would be an incredibly competitive, mouth watering fight that fans would most certainly tune in for and it would certainly bolster the reputation of the 26-year-old.

You never know a fight will happen for certain until it is confirmed in boxing, and even then, something unfortunate can happen to ruin a great event. But the sport seems to be on a streak of Super-fights currently so fans will have to pray that it stays this way when Mayweather promotions look to lineup the face of their roster with another opponent.
