Tyson Fury has split with trainer Ben Davidson after 2 years working together and 2 months before his eagerly anticipated rematch with Deontay Wilder.

Fury’s father John criticised Davison in September after the boxer’s victory over Otto Wallin in Las Vegas, saying the coaching team should be gone. “If I had my say, the lot would be gone. Looking at that there, if he keeps hold of that team, they’re gonna cost him his career, I’ll say it live on TV.”

Davison, 27, who had trained the heavyweight since late 2017, was instrumental in Fury’s 10-stone weight-loss, return from mental health issues and the controversial draw with Wilder in December 2018.

Davidson took to social media after rumours circulated, “Tyson and myself had to both make decisions for our careers, which resulted in our working relationship coming to an end. However we remain friends and he will SMASH the DOSSER!!”

With news of the split, quick came news of Fury joining up with SugarHill Stewart who will become Fury’s 3rd full time trainer and is the nephew of the late Emanuel Stewart. This is not a step into the unknown for Fury, who trained at the Emanuel’s Kronk Gym in Detroit almost a decade ago but only time will tell if this decision will be a good one.
