A potential super-fight looms as rumours suggest war in the ring between Mikey Garcia (40-1, 30 KOs) and Manny Pacquiao (62-7-2, 39 KOs).

Fight fans are loving the prospect of the two clashing this year. The bout would take place over 12 rounds in the Welterweight division, the weight limit 147 pounds (10.5 stone or 66.7 KG).

For the WBA welterweight world championship, Pacquiao would defend his WBA Super World Welterweight belts for the first time in his career.

The list of boxers desperate to fight the eight-division champion is longer than a ring walk at Wembley Stadium! With the likes of Errol Spence Jr, Terrence Crawford, Danny Garcia and Shawn Porter all throwing their hats into the ring, why does Garcia have the best shot at competing against the 41-year-old Filipino legend?

Sean Gibbons, the head of Manny Pacquiao Promotions, has confirmed that Garcia is in fact in pole position to take on the match-up with ‘The Pac Man’.

Garcia is a four-division champion and at 32-years-old, is still a dangerous prospect.

Despite losing badly on his welterweight debut to Spence Jr last year, the American has proved that he is more than capable of success – bouncing back with a decision victory over Jessie Vargas in February.

THE BOXING GAME YOU HAVE ALL BEEN WAITING FOR!

Boxing fans are divided by Garcia’s intentions. Some believe that the ‘Mikey’ is just in it for the money prior to retirement. Others are convinced that Garcia genuinely wants to gain the title.

Speaking with boxing YouTuber Snowqueenla, Garcia claimed that the bout was in fact taking place.

“We’d already started conversations regarding a possible fight with Manny for this past July,” he said.

“After I fought Jessie Vargas, the conversations with Team Pacquiao started to move forward. The idea was to fight Manny this past summer.

“Then the pandemic hit. Covid shut things down and it messed up everybody’s plans. That was disappointing. I was already looking forward to a big fight. It didn’t happen, but I know there’s still a possibility there.”
