Two top-ranked, undefeated, 140 pounders come head to head in a genuine 50/50 clash this coming Saturday at the o2 in London. WBA champ Regis Prograis (24-0, 20 KO) and IBF champ Josh Taylor (15-0, 12 KO) take part in the latest World Boxing Super Series final which is perhaps the most intriguing matchup this year.
Both fighters are in their prime and equally problematic to each other style-wise. They both hold power, having almost identical knock out percentages, neither have been knocked down so far in their careers and there isn’t much between them either in the speed department.
Taylor will look to use his slight height (2 inches) and reach (2.5 inches) advantage and take the centre of the ring from the first bell, whilst the confident American should look to slip and counter using his slick head and foot movement.
“I am fully confident going in to this fight,” Taylor said. “I am bigger than him, stronger, quicker and punch just as hard. I can beat him in every department. If he comes and tries to walk me down than I believe that he will walk into a shot and I will get him out of there. If not, I can outbox him for the full 12 rounds.”
“Everybody that I have fought was supposed to be an even, 50-50 fight but I dominated,” Prograis said. “[Taylor] is taller and longer than me but the tale of the tape doesn’t matter to me. You can’t determine my hook by the tale of the tape or my boxing IQ. I don’t just want to repeat what he said but I really cannot see how he can beat me. I am not being cocky or arrogant, but I just can’t see it.”
For the Ali Trophy winner, a super fight with Jose Ramirez seems destined who holds the remaining 2 titles to potentially become undisputed champion of the Super Lightweight division.
