With Anthony Joshua’s mandatory obligations, the WBA (Kubrat Pulev) and the WBO (Oleksandr Usyk), it could be a while before boxing finally crowns another undisputed world heavyweight champion.

Yesterday, British rival Tyson Fury who holds the WBC world heavyweight title urged Joshua to ‘vacate his belts and fight the fight that everyone wants to see.’

Despite Fury and Joshua signing a two-fight deal back in June, Usyk insists he will not step aside to allow the unification, and Fury believes the Ukranian would beat Joshua if he takes that route. “Don’t take my retirement cheque baby, do not fight Joshua, he’s mine!”

Speaking to Sky Sports earlier in the month, Joshua dismissed Tyson’s Fury career by comparing how long the two took to challenge for a world title and suggested Fury may be close to retirement. “Fury has been professional much longer than me, he should be looking to retire soon. I will challenge Fury and Wilder – these guys aren’t the biggest names on my record anyway, they are just another heavyweight.”

Fury’s coach, Sugar Hill responded to Joshu’s comments referring to AJ’s offer to spar Fury in preparation for the Wilder rematch, “Joshua says a lot, he was supposed to come to train with us but I guess that goes to show how far his word goes.”
