Two of Britain’s most exciting heavyweights are on a collision course for a blockbuster ‘Battle of Britain’ showdown in April – a must watch for boxing fans across the world. If you’re a fan looking for two huge warriors, non-stop action and raw knockout power – this is the fight for you. Both these undefeated men are currently on the periphery of world level and a good win here would project them into world title contention.

Promoter of both men, Frank Warren says this fight is the “biggest risk” of his promotional career. “Both camps are working around the clock with this aim in mind, we are in peak discussions at the moment and I think there is a will to get it done…I am hoping we might be in a position to announce that soon.” Warren told 5 Live.

Last week, exciting reports circulated that Joe Joyce had agreed terms for his side of the deal for a fight at the O2, London and today, Queensberry promotions have announced a press conference for Friday to formally announce the fight.

Dubois, still only 22 and trained by Martin Bowers is seen as one of the hottest prospects in British boxing and likens himself to a mixture of Lennox Lewis and Larry Holmes. The Greenwich fighter had a fine amateur record of 69 wins from 75 bouts but didn’t hit the heights set by Joyce. Dubois has more of a title count in the paid game, with nine belts claimed already compared to ‘The Juggernaut’s’ three. The 6 ft 5 powerhouse has stopped 13 of his 14 opponents so far in the pro ranks and Joyce will pose a serious step up in opposition. Dubois lack of experience is perhaps the biggest threat to him in this fight. Frank Warren rates Dubois extremely highly and considers him a world champion in the making. “At this stage of his career, Daniel is the best heavyweight I have been involved with. He is an exceptional talent.”

Joyce on the other hand, is 12 years Dubois senior at the age of 34, which is still considered peak age in the heavyweight division. A highly decorated amateur, Joyce won ABA titles, a European bronze, world bronze, Olympic silver, Commonwealth gold, European gold, and was a member of the Team GB squad for four years. As a pro, the ‘Juggernaut’ has since reeled off 10 straight wins – nine via stoppage and now trains with Adam Booth after leaving Big Bear, California and Abel Sanchez in April 2019. As well as having more experience, Joyce can also claim to fighting at a higher level in the pros, despite having less fights and silverware. He has beaten a former world champion Bermane Stiverne and a world title contender Byrant Jennings who went 12 rounds with Wladimir Kiltschko in 2015.

Although its perhaps a bigger jump for ‘DDD’ with his lack of experience, its definitely a bigger risk for Joyce, who at this stage in his career can ill afford a bad loss on his record.

This a genuine 50/50 fight with a good mix of styles. Dubois can stun opponents at any given moment whilst Joyce is more of an unrelenting pressure fighter. This is going to be an absolute barn stormer and is one you do not want to miss! Fight fans just want to see the best fight the best, which creates more excitement and anticipation, draws in new fans and ultimately elevates the sport. Credit to both these warriors for taking this fight.

Anthony Joshua had his say on how he sees the fight going… “Joyce can outwork him if Dubois doesn’t stop him early. If it finishes early, I’d go Dubois because he’s a puncher and Joyce if it goes late via stoppage or points win. Joyce is more experienced, really fit and has a great engine and Dubois has the power.”
