RAGE ON THE RED SEA

The boxing world will once again tune in this Saturday to heavyweight boxing live from King Abdullah Sports City in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia as Oleksandr Usyk defends his heavyweight crowns against the man he beat back in September for all the spoils Anthony Joshua.

After a unanimous decision the Ukrainian looks to repeat what happened at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last year. Outboxed for the 12 rounds Joshua looks to be crowned king of the heavyweights once again. In a tough first bout many have already written Joshua off to get revenge on his opponent. Both men have shown respect for each other before both fights, it’s clear to see they both know what their opponent is capable of and the craft they both possess certainly makes this a fight that every boxing fan will love to tune into.

Usyk has had a very successful career in the amateurs and as a pro having won world championships and being crowned Olympic gold medallist in London 2012. The Ukrainian started his career as a cruiserweight, rising the ranks to eventually become the Undisputed champion and win the World Boxing Super Series against Murat Gassiev in Jeddah back in 2018.

Joshua also having success in both pros and amateur like his opponent an Olympic gold medalist in 2012 and winning the ABA championships twice. Joshua quickly rose to stardom in the UK, known for his one punch highlight finishes he rose the ranks and became the poster boy for British boxing. Becoming the IBF heavyweight champion back in 2016 after dispatching Charles Martin in 1 round.

Both men have won multiple belts in their respected divisions, Usyk in 2 weight classes now and regarded as the No1 Pound for Pound king certainly showed us why he has that on his record after dismantling the Brit over 12 rounds in the first bout. Since their first bout Joshua has made some changes to his team adding Robert Garcia to help master the plan to beat Usyk this time round.

Garcia is known for his offensive style of training his fighters said “We’ll see who’s the better man, were going to do whatever it takes to get those belts back.

“I know he can do it. He’s the bigger man, he’s the stronger man, he’s got the reach advantage, so were going to take advantage of that”

“Come that day. I think without a doubt were going to have a three-time heavyweight champion of the world”.

Usyk being a proud countryman said in the press conference “It is very important for me, my team, my country and I’m really happy to be here”

“We learned from each other in the first fight, but this is a continuation and the first round on Saturday will be round 13. We had enough time to study each other, We were born to compete for life, for belts for everything. The one who does not compete, does not win”.

This is certainly an intriguing rematch as many have already looked past this bout and what’s next for both men. Will we see a trilogy if Joshua wins?  What does Usyk do if he gets the job done, does he stay at heavyweight or move back down to cruiserweight? The prospect of some huge heavyweight nights soon will excite fans across the globe.
